Due to the lack of corresponding language environment in Chinese middle school students' English learning,many students have lost all interest in English learning,and the learning effect is unsatisfactory.Interest is the prerequisite of active learning,this shows that learning interest is the key to improve teaching quality.Therefore,how to stimulate students' learning initiative and enable them to enjoy English learning effectively is worthy of our attention and exploration in English teaching.Based on the grading objectives of and requirements on English songs teaching by English Curriculum Standards,this paper mainly discusses how to apply English songs to teaching and whether this teaching means can gradually enhance students' learning interest and enthusiasm.By virtue of the cheerful rhythms,graceful melodies,and understandable lyrics,English songs are favored by middle school students,which can promote their English learning.Therefore,the introduction of English songs into class can increase the language input,and help the students to improve their pronunciation,intonation,and strengthen their learning motivation.Meantime,the classroom atmosphere will be more active,which will further promote English teaching in class.This paper adopted the action research method and took 58 students in a class of the Eighth Grade taught by the author as the research subjects to implement English teaching through songs.According to the students' English level and their interests,the author selected eight English songs,and taught the songs to students three times a week in class.The whole action research lasted for a semester.By analyzing the data of questionnaires and students' interviews,it shows that students' attitudes toward English learning through songs are positive,and their learning interest and self-confidence as well as students' learning enthusiasm are strengthened,moreover,students' language knowledge and skills are also enhanced.Through analyzing pretest and post-test scores,the data indicate that post-test scores are increased with a passing rate of 98.2%,and pretest scores were significantly different from post-test scores(P<0.05).The test results show that it is effective to introduce English songs in junior high school English teaching.Specifically,it is beneficial to stimulate and improve students' interest and self-confidence in English learning,by learning to sing English songs,students' English proficiency can be improved to a certain extent,and it also makes the process of English teaching and learning more efficient.
