A Study Of The Relationship Between Parenting Style, Academic Motivation And Academic Procrastination

Parenting styles have significant impact on academic procrastination.However,studies which draw academic motivation as a mediator into the relationship between parenting styles and academic procrastination is still less.This study chooses 650 junior middle school students from Gansu province as participants,and use the Parental Authority Questionnaire(PAQ),Academic Procrastination Inventory(API)and Achievement Motivation Scale(AMS)as the tools to explore the relationship among the parenting style,academic motivation and academic procrastination.The conclusions are follows:1)Parental permissive and academic procrastination are significantly positive correlated,parental authoritarian and academic procrastination are significantly positive correlated,parental authoritative and academic procrastination are significantly negative correlated.2)Amotivation is a total mediator of the relationship between parental permissive and academic procrastination,extrinsic motivation is a total mediator of the relationship between mother permissive and academic procrastination,intrinsic motivation is a total mediator of the relationship between parental permissive and academic procrastination.Amotivation is a total mediator of the relationship between parental authoritarian and academic procrastination,extrinsic motivation is a total mediator of the relationship between parental authoritarian and academic procrastination.Amotivation is a partial mediator of the relationship between parental authoritative and academic procrastination,extrinsic motivation is a partial mediator of the relationship between mother authoritative and academic procrastination,intrinsic motivation is a partial mediator of the relationship between parental authoritative and academic procrastination.
