Phonological processing skill plays a very important role in the acquisition and use of voice information while processing written and oral words.It is widely accepted that phonological processing skill contains three components,phonological awareness,phonological naming speed and phonological working memory.And researchers usually explore the relationship between phonological processing skill and reading ability from these three aspects.However,as for the relationship between phonological awareness and individual's reading ability,researchers have different opinions.One stands for the idea that individual's phonological awareness cannot influence and forecast the development of reading ability.The other view is that there's a cross-linguistic coherence between phonological awareness and the development of reading ability.This research explores the development of phonological processing skill thoroughly,then studies the relationship between phonological processing skill and individual's final Chinese scores.This research includes two parts:Research one:The purpose is to investigate the development of children'phonological processing skill.Phonological awareness tests(phonetic deletion,tone detection,onset detection and rime detection),phonological naming speed tests(digit rapid naming and color rapid naming)and phonological working memory tests(digit span test and verbal working memory)are carried out to examine phonological processing skill.Subjects are students from grade 3 to grade 5.There are 45 boys and 47 girls.The results show that phonological processing skill develops with grades.And boys perform worse than girls.(1)Phonological awareness develops quickly from grade 3 to grade 5,but the developments of different kinds of phonological awareness are different.Phoneme awareness is the one developing slowest,tone awareness is developing quicker than others,and the development of onset awareness is equal to rime awareness.Only phoneme awareness diverse with gender,and girls do better than boys.(2)Phonological naming speed is growing fast from grade 3 to grade 5 both in digit and color.And girls can do better in colcr naming speed than boys.(3)Phonological working memory also develops quickly from grade 3 to grade 5,not only in digit span but also in verbal working memory.But boys' performances are worse than girls.(4)The development of children' phonological processing skill is influenced by children' grades,as well as the three components of phonological processing skill.Research two:The purpose is to explore the relationship between phonological processing skill and reading ability.Analysis the data collected form Research one and subjects'final Chinese scores.Correlation analysis and regression analysis are adopted.The results show that phonological processing skill is positively correlated with final Chinese scores and has prediction effect on final Chinese scores.(1)The correlation between phonological processing skill and final Chinese scores differs with grades.(2)The prediction effect that phonological processing skill has on final Chinese scores differs with grades.
