There is a huge number of China's population flowing to other places.Many of those migrant workers come to Shanghai,it brings the problem of adaptation into a local culture when their children get schooling in an alien citylike Shanghai.Language as the carrier of culture and the media of communication,is an important way to deepen migrant children's cultural identity of Shanghai.Empathy as a connection of self and others' emotional communication,can effectively promote the interaction between people and help people integrate into each other's culture.However,in language teaching,there is a lack of attention on students' empathy,neither is the empirical studies.The development of information technology has brought about richer and richer leaning materials and more convenient mobile learning opportunities.The characteristics of the micro video—short and brief,also provide opportunities for learners to learn anytime and anywhere,especially the fragmented knowledge.In order to promote students to learn Shanghai urban dialect,improve students' empathy,and smooth their adaptation to the local culture of Shanghai,we use mobile technology with immigrantstudents who are learning Shanghai dialect,with designed technological and pedagogical intervention.Technological intervention includes a series of shanghai urban dialect learning videos integrating empathy aspects,fostering students' empathy from cognitive and emotional dimensions.Also,we utilize the mobile devices and WeChat public number to connect students' language learning seamlessly.The pedagogical intervention is the authentic leaning environment—role-playing.By empathy training,students can experience and understand others,thus improving their empathy.This study analyzes students' language level,empathy and cultural integration through questionnaire.By interview,we can learn about their opinions towards videos,role-playing and shanghai culture.On the basis of the analysis,the results show that micro videos and role-playing can both significantly improve students' language level.Micro videos can significantly promote students' cognitive dimension and the whole empathy,while,the role-playing can only enhance their emotional empathy significantly.It's also found that students' language level has a positive correlation with empathy and its subscales.Although empathy has correlation with cultural identity,it's not positive.So,in the education,educator could use appropriate technological means and pedagogical means in order to promote the development of students' empathy and to cultivate global citizens.
