Listening is an important way of language input and good listening comprehension ability is the basis of communication.Listening is one of the five basic language skills--listening,speaking,reading,writing and translation and it is also a difficult skill for foreign language learners to master.In recent years,the research on English pronunciation and listening has been mainly focused on the study of phonological obstacles in English listening comprehension,the situation of English pronunciation and listening teaching,methods and strategies on the English listening teaching.However,the researches that explore the correlation between pronunciation level and listening ability and apply the pronunciation training to English listening teaching are relatively rare.Based on trace model of speech perception,Krashen's Input hypothesis,and three listening models,this paper mainly explores the effect of English pronunciation training on the students' pronunciation level and listening ability so as to arouse students' interest in English learning,help students overcome the listening comprehension obstacles,improve their listening ability and providing reference for the further study on English listening teaching.In this study,the students of two parallel senior grade one classes are selected as subjects of the research,and the two classes are taught by the same teacher who respectively uses pronunciation training method and traditional teaching method in the experimental class and the controlled class.Combining the qualitative research and quantitative research,the experimental results were analyzed.It is designed to answer the following three research questions:1)What is the effect of English pronunciation training on promoting students' English listening ability in senior high schools?2)What is the correlation between the students' English pronunciation level and their listening ability?3)What can teachers do to apply the pronunciation training to the English listening teaching in senior high schools?The research shows that the students in the experimental class have made great progress in listening comprehension after four-month pronunciation training;on the contrary,the students in the controlled class don't have such obvious changes.It can be seen that English pronunciation training has a significant effect on improving students' English pronunciation level and listening ability.By analyzing the relevant data,it is found that there is a significant correlation between English pronunciation level and students' listening ability.By methods of recognizing phoneme graph,imitation pronunciation and discriminate phonemes can effectively help students improve their listening comprehension ability.This paper is an exploratory study,but still has some inspiration for improving the current listening teaching.On one hand,this study can help teachers understand the importance of listening teaching,understand the relationship between English pronunciation and English listening,change the traditional listening teaching method.By using pronunciation training to improve the listening ability provides a new breakthrough to solve the problem in listening teaching.On the other hand,this study can improve students' interest in listening learning,enhance learning initiative and self-confidence,improve listening ability and pronunciation level.It is hoped that this paper can provide some references and enlightenment for senior high school teachers to improve English listening teaching,and hope that following studies will explore more effective listening teaching methods on this basis.
