Objective:To investigate the relationship between duration of left-home and school adaptation of left-home-kids,and to explore the mediation effect of parent-child communication quality in this relationship.Methods: To study the relationship between duration of left-home and school adaptation of left-home-kids,the School Adaptation Inventory for Junior Students and the Parent-child Communication Quality Scale were administrated to 1083 grade 7th,grade 8th grade 9th students at 4 junior high schools in Hunan Province and 980 questionaires were effective.Statistic analysis methods included statistic description,t-test,analysis of variance,Spearman correlation analysis,regression analysis and mediating effect analysis.Results:(1)Left-home-kids scored an average of 109.90 points on school adaptation,the average score of academic adaptation is the lowest,however,companion relationship is the highest.(2)The overall scores of school adaptation female students scored higher than male students,but the difference was not significant.The grade existed significantly different with statistical significance,grade 7th and 8th scored higher than grade 9th;There was no significant difference on the type of parents who were out for work and duration of left-home.(3)Duration of left-home was negatively correlated with school adaptation of left-home-kids.(4)The problem-oriented communication quality was positively correlated with school adaptation of left-home-kids.(5)The mother-child problem-oriented communication quality had wholly mediation effect on the duration of left-home and school adaptation of left-home-kids.Conclusions:(1)Left-home-kids' duration of left-home was associated with school adaptation,and the longer duration of left-home,the worse school adaptation of left-home-kids.(2)Duration of left-home was correlated with parent-child communication quality of left-home-kids,and the shorter duration of left-home,the closer parenthood,and the more contributions it will make mothers to help children solve problems.(3)School adaptation of left-home-kids was related with parent-child communication quality.(4)The mother-child problem-oriented communi-cation quality had mediation effect on the duration of left-home and school adaptation of left-home-kids,in other words,duration of lefthome affected school adaptation by the mother-child problem-oriented communication quality.
