The evaluation methods of scientific inquiry ability usually included paper and pencil test,spot observation and worksheet.The paper and pencil test can effectively evaluate some elements of the scientific thinking and scientific inference about the scientific inquiry ability,such as the ability of posing questions,supposition and assumption.Meanwhile,the spot observation and worksheet can effectively evaluate the crucial skills required science inquiry process.In the first line teaching,the way,“experimental report + paper and pencil test”,was usually applied to evaluate students' scientific inquiry ability.Here,a multiple evaluation system of scientific inquiry ability was constructed by appropriately integrating paper and pencil test,spot observation with worksheet.Meanwhile,we drew up the tool of multiple assessments based on the system of “paper and pencil test + spot observation + worksheet”,and then we also performed educational experiment followed the multiple assessments.We randomly selected sixty-nine fresh students intwo classes in a high school,located Wanzhou district of Chongqing,as our test objects,class “X” represents the experiment group and class “Y” represents the control group.Specially,taking the three exploratory experiments in biology compulsory 1 textbook of the PEP High School as content carriers,we performed the evaluation in class “X” by using the multiple evaluation of “paper and pencil test + spot observation + worksheet”,in constrast,the evaluation in class “Y” by using the traditional evaluation of “experimental report + paper and pencil test”.After one semester of that practice,we tested all students by using the multiple assessments tool,and aimed at finding out the effect of the multiple evaluation methods on the students' scientific inquiry ability.The results are as follows:Firstly,the multiple evaluation,compared to the traditional evaluation,could significantly improve the students' scientific inquiry ability.Secondly,the multiple evaluation,compared to the traditional evaluation,could apparently increase all of the eight elements of the students' scientific inquiry ability.Thirdly,the multiple evaluation,compared to the traditional evaluation,could well facilitate the scientific inquiry ability of the students of different genders,especially,the facilitating effects on girls was significantly better than that on boys.Last but not least,the multiple evaluation,compared to the traditional evaluation,could apparently improve the scientific inquiry ability of the students with different knowledge background.Meanwhile,the most obviously improving effects in the potential students,following by the medium students,and the improving effects on the super students is the last.
