Analysis On Mei Yiqi's Idea Of Higher Education

Mei Yiqi(1889-1962)devoted all his life to development of Tsinghua University.All his idea of higher education originated from practice and in turn served practice.Currently,the vital task for higher education in China is building a number of world-class universities and first-class disciplines.By analyzing Mei Yiqi's idea,it has theoretical and practical significance against today's backdrop.It will help us seek some references.This dissertation which is divided into four parts mainly uses the literature research and historical research.The first part is introduction which contains the background,significance,research methods and literature review.The second part studies his experiences and the practice of running different universities.Practice in Tsinghua University,the National Southwest Associated University and Tsinghua University in Taiwan clarify the establishment of his ideas of higher education.Thirdly,analysis focuses on the idea of higher education.His idea is divided in three parts,including teachers,general education and faculty governance.Three parts are interrelated.The goal of education aims at developing individuals.Rational structure of the teaching staff is crucial.To stabilize teacher troop,Mei Yiqi implements “faculty governance” system.This gives full play to faculties the managing power.Finally,some references for higher education are pointed out.Development of teachers is closely connected to development of colleges.At the background of “double first-class” construction,colleges should put more emphasis on teacher troops construction.At the same time,we can make some essential progress on modern university system in China.It is crucial to make sense for full development of students.
