| Mei Yiqi is a famous educationist in the modern China. He makes his best efforts on higher education and devotes all his energy and life to the development of Tsinghua University. In the educational practice of Tsinghua University, he combined the educational ideas of western developed countries and the Chinese traditional ones together and developed into his own ideas of modern higher education which is both extensive and profound. The application of these ideas makes Tsinghua, a less-known one, becomes a top university in China, even in the world. In addition, the success of Tsinghua promoted the development of higher education in China then.On the 21st century China's higher education in the key phase of the development .It is the duty and obligation of every educator'to take hold of the chance and contribute to the quick development of higher education in China. In the 1920s and 1930s, Mei Yiqi grasped the golden opportunity of higher education development and opened Tsinghua's new prospect by employing his advanced idea in the practice of running universities. It's important to study his ideas and practical activities and we should learn from him and draw lessons from his success. It can help us develop new education ideas and they are of great significance in higher education reform, both in theory and practice.The thesis falls into six parts. And part Four discusses"general education", which is the key part of his education idea; Mei'principle of running universities is explored in the fifth part; The last part focus on the guidance of Mei'ideas for today'higher education developments.
