The Research On Mei Yiqi's Moral Education Thoughts In Tsinghua University

Mei Yiqi is a famous educator in the history of Chinese modern higher education, who is the former president of Tsinghua University for 17 years and is also known as the ?lifetime president? for dedicating all his life to it. During his tenure in Tsinghua University, Southeast United University and University in Taiwan, Me Yiqi combined the needs of social development with the practice in the campus, constantly enriched and developed his education thoughts and finally formed a complete education system. As a significant part of Mei Yiqi?s education system, moral education thoughts have drawn an increasing attention and exploration of later generations.This thesis analyzes the historical backgrounds of the generation of Mei Yiqi?s moral education thoughts, and interprets them in details based on several means such as review and analysis of literatures, collection of historical materials, and verifications through field trips. In terms of moral education theory for universities, this thesis classifies Mei Yiqi?s moral education thoughts into four main aspects: cultivating ?overall developed talents? by unifing cognition emotion and ambition; patriotism education featuring of ?being ready to save the country ?; ?developing the spirit of selfless? by abandoning ?pravacy? and ?false?; and ?Keeping good school spirit and constructing university spirit? to contribute to the society. Mei Yiqi took series of effective actions to perform his moral education thoughts: teaching by examples combined with self-study; ?masters? lead students to self-learning; cultivating strong willpower by aesthetic education and physical education; advocating group practice to form a moral community. This thesis also interprets the practical actions Mei Yiqi had took on moral teachers and school sprit from the perspective of Tsinghua University and Southwest Associated University, which were under his government.This thesis argues that Mei yiqi?s thoughts of moral education have important implication and lasting theoretical and practical values. All his moral thoughts about combining Chinese and western cultures and finding optimal integrated point, the interactive and subjective moral education mode combining ?master? and ?self-learning?, the goal of cultivating overall developed talents in the aspects of both knowledge and morality, and the rich and complete moral methods performed for the construction of university spirit have valuable inspirations for the moral education reform today.
