The number of art-physical-education students in senior high school has increased a lot in the past few years.And with the development of society and economy,the requirements for art-physical-education students are more and more in English.But these students do not well in English,which is caused by various factors.Learning style has been viewed as an important variable affecting effective learning and teaching.This thesis focuses on the perceptual learning style for art-physical-education students to learn English in senior high school.The studies on perceptual learning style started in 1970 s abroad and domestic studies on English perceptual learning styles began in 1980 s.Scholars have tried to study on perceptual learning style from different perspectives and have had some influential findings.But the participants they chose are mainly focused on college students or non art-physical-education students in senior high school.There are few researches and studies on the perceptual learning styles for art-physical-education students to learn English in senior high school.This thesis tries to explore the following three research questions:(1)What are the overall perceptual learning style preferences for art-physical-education students to learn English in senior high school?(2)Is there any significant relationship between majors and English perceptual learning style preferences?(3)And what implications for teaching and learning can we get from the results?The author adopted Reid's Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire(PLSPQ)and oral interviews as instruments and took 154 art-physical-education students from senior two in Qionglai No.2 School as samples.Then qualitative and quantitative analysis were employed to analyze the data.Finally the author has some findings:(1)Art-physical-education students have multiple learning style preferences in English learning in senior high school.They learn best in Group Learning style,Kinesthetic Learning Style and Visual Learning Style and can learn well in Tactile Learning Style,Auditory Learning Style and Individual Learning Style.And they prefer Group Learning Style most and Individual Learning Style least.(2)With the aid of One-way ANOVA,the author finds that there's some significant relationship between majors and perceptual learning style preferences in English learning.Students in different majors have different perceptual learning style preferences.For Visual Learning Style,students majoring in PE,dance and broadcasting prefer it more than students majoring in music and painting;For Kinesthetic Learning Style,there's no significant relationship between majors and the learning style;For Auditory Learning Style,students majoring in PE,dance and broadcasting like it more than students majoring in music and painting;For Group Learning Style,students majoring in PE and dance prefer it more than students majoring in painting,music and broadcasting;For Tactile Learning Style,students majoring in dance prefer it most following by students majoring in PE,painting and broadcasting and students majoring in music prefer it least;For Individual Learning Style,students majoring in PE rank the first following by dance and painting and students majoring in music and broadcasting rank the last.(3)There are some pedagogical implications especially for teaching from the study.Firstly,it's necessary to increase the awareness of learning style for students and teachers.Secondly,teachers should tell students the shortages and strengths of theirown learning style so that students can face various challenges and problems by themselves.Thirdly,it's important to create teacher-student styles matching in English class by adopting various teaching strategies.Fourthly,teachers should teach art-physical-education students specific English learning strategies based on students' preferred learning styles to improve teaching and learning.Fifthly,it's significant to stretch art-physical-education students' learning styles to make their learning style more flexible and diverse.
