The theory of knowledge is one of the branch of philosophy,and the fundamental question for the students in middle school is to answer the question: "How do we know?" According to the specific subject and the purpose of constructing knowledge to answer this question.One of the aims of theory of knowledge is to study the methods of inquiry,and to determine what factors make these methods become effective knowledge tools.Learn the theory of knowledge and understanding of students to use various methods,by considering each knowledge in the field of knowledge,trying to understand how knowledge is constructed;At the same time students need to fully understand the nature of knowledge,from the aspect of comprehensive understanding of research methods in the academic field;At present,teachers and students focus little on the theory of knowledge and has little awareness of it at home or abroad.The method used in this study is content analysis.Through the existing literature reading,in the full study on theory of knowledge,learning theory of knowledge in the field of education on the basis of combining the characteristics of chemistry.Analysis of the theory of knowledge textbook and chemistry textbook on International Baccalaureate Diploma courses,and chemist ry textbook,try to analysis what is chemistry from the perspective of TOK.Following conclusions are made:1.TOK part in IB chemistry book tells the way of knowing and nature of science mainly.According to the research of cognitive science,cognitive factors are the main components of cognitive activities,which can change the object to the main part and the material existence to the consciousness.The cognitive factors of cognition mainly include perception,memory,imagination,language,intuition.The combined effects of these cognitive factors make the subject a dynamic reflection in cognitive activities.In addition to the passive learning knowledge itself,for students,the more meaningful and efficient way of learning is to establish a set of conceptual tools for the study of the subject.Not only in the field of chemistry,but also in different disciplines.2.Different chapter of IB chemistry book has different way of knowing,and different way of knowing take different proportion in different part.Reason is the most important way of knowing in IB chemistry,and the second important one is language which is a fundamental for chemistry.Imagination,faith and intuition seems not appear much these chapter,however every time they appear,there would be a big breakthrough in chemistry development history.3.Theory of knowledge has played an essential role in the field of chemistry.Theory of knowledge can help deepen the understanding of the knowledge in different academic field for students,as well as the significance of learning to produce a more in-depth thinking.The integration of the concept of theory of knowledge can make students become the real learners,and have a profound impact on their further study and development.The limitation of this research is,no specific ways and methods for how to use TOK as a tool teaching in the class and there is no comparison of the content of chemistry book of PEP edition.Further research can be carried out if have time.
