With the deepening of globalization,the international status of China becomes more and more important.There are more and more opportunities for Chinese people to communicate and cooperate with foreigners.As a tool for International communication,Chinese students' English listening and speaking skills have been drawn more and more attention.English learning in primary and junior high schools is an enlightening stage.Besides,it is also a critical period of developing students' listening and speaking skills.However,due to the evaluation of the current entrance exam to senior high schools,the students' performance after four years' learning in junior high schools shows that most of their grammar and reading skills are far better than their listening and speaking or writing skills,which are owing to the teaching focus in everyday classroom teaching always concentrate on recitation and memorizing some grammar rules,new words and expressions,which is against the law of language learning.Therefore,how to improve students' English listening and speaking skills has become an urgent issue.The thesis which is guided by the Output Hypothesis and based on empirical study aims to find out an effective,efficient English listening and speaking teaching method.In the beginning,this thesis elaborates the Output Hypothesis through method of literature,as well as the domestic and foreign research status on both Output and Input Hypothesis.In addition,it also includes some experts' views on the application of Output and Input Hypothesis in English listening and speaking teaching from both home and abroad.The author also analyzes the current situation and problems of the English listening and speaking teaching in junior high schools.The one-year experiment is based on 92 students divided into two classes which the author teaches in Grade Six.The entrance exam to junior high schools shows they are in the same level of English.Questionnaire survey,pre-test,post-test and English listening and speaking teaching method based on the Output Hypothesis have been applied in the experiment.The data will be collected and analyzed with the assistance of SPSS.The questionnaire survey focuses on the problems of the English listening and speaking teaching in junior high schools.The application of the Output Hypothesis-based English listening and speaking teaching method is monitored through evaluating students' classroom performance.The result of the one-year experiment shows that there is a significant difference between the control class and experiment class in oral English ability.Besides,the students in experiment class show higher learning initiative than those in the control class.Last but not least,the thesis presents some suggestions on the junior high school English listening and speaking teaching according to the experimental results,which include offering students more output opportunities,creating a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere in the class,applying learner-centered approach,and enriching listening and speaking materials inside and outside the class.In the end,the shortcomings of this research and the problems needed to be solved in the future are given.
