Vocabulary is the foundation of language,and vocabulary learning can greatly improve the comprehensive ability of language.In China,due to the facts that the absence of vocabulary class and the boring vocabulary teaching,the situation of English vocabulary teaching is not optimistic in junior middle school.With the rapid development of modern education and information technology,a teaching mode which bases on Multimodal discourse analysis emerges,known as Multimodal teaching mode.This thesis mainly focuses on applying the Multimodal teaching mode to English vocabulary teaching in junior middle school,answering the following two research questions:1.Is the Multimodal teaching mode helpful in changing the students' attitudes towards English vocabulary?2.Can the Multimodal teaching mode improve the students' vocabulary achievement?According to research questions,the author conducts the experiment in the 12 th Junior Middle School in Jinzhou of Liaoning province from September 2016 to December 2016.The subjects of this research are students from two parallel classes of Grade 8.Class 4(51students)is selected as the experimental class(EC).The teaching approach is Multimodal teaching mode.Class 5(52 students)is selected as the control class(CC).The teaching approach is traditional method.The questionnaire,test and interview are used in this research to explore the research questions,and the SPSS statistical software is adopted to analyze the data.Finally,the conclusion can be drawn as follows:1.Multimodal teaching mode can change the students' attitude towards English vocabulary.Students had positive attitude towards Multimodal teaching mode which can fully mobilize the students' multiple senses,help to stimulate students' enthusiasm for English vocabulary learning and improve the memory effect of vocabulary.2.Multimodal teaching mode can improve students' vocabulary achievement.The test result of the Multimodal teaching mode is indeed higher than that of the traditional English vocabulary teaching.It indicates that the Multimodal teaching mode has received good results.The findings of the research have brought some implications to junior middle school vocabulary teaching.Although the results of the research show that the Multimodal teaching mode is effective in vocabulary teaching in junior middle school,due to thelimited sample,short time of the experiment and other factors,there are still some limitations in this research,so the further research is needed.
