Ancient Chinese poetry is one of the oldest forms of literature in the world,and it is the essence of Chinese traditional culture.In the teaching system of Chinese New Curriculum Reform in senior high school,the appreciation of Chinese ancient poetry is an important part of the teaching contents.In the Chinese college entrance examination,the appreciation of the ancient poetry is also compulsory.However,at present,there are some problems in the teaching of the ancient poetry.Based on the present situation of poetry teaching and the requirements in the New Chinese Curriculum Standards for Senior High School and the National College Entrance Examination Syllabus,this thesis discusses the methods and the strategies of improving Chinese teaching in senior high school combining with the writer's personal teaching experience in the senior high school.This thesis consists of the following aspects.In the introduction,the main topics and the main contents are described.It introduces the major research methods and reviews the previous literature.In the first part,it introduces the features and functions of Chinese ancient poetry,including the origin and the classification of Chinese ancient poetry,the characteristics of Chinese ancient poetry,such as lyricism,freehand brushwork and musicality,the functions of reflecting the reality,expressing ideas and ideological education.In the second part,it analyzes students' ability and present situation to learn ancient poetry.It illustrates the students'insufficient competence in learning Chinese ancient poetry based on students' interest,basic knowledge,methods of learning and their motivation.In the third part,it classifies and analyzes the content of ancient poetry teaching in senior high school based on the General High School Curriculum Standard Experimental Textbook by People's Education Press.In the fourth part,it discusses the strategies on teaching Chinese ancient poetry in senior high school,and puts forward the ideas that teachers should implement scientific and targeted ancient poetry teaching in senior high school by making use of the background information of ancient poems,applying the multi-media means appropriately,and using comparative reading.In the fifth part,the writer designs a case study of ancient poetry teaching in senior high school according to a teaching example of ancient poetry teaching and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of it.The sixth part contains the reflection on the teaching of ancient poetry in senior high school.Ancient Chinese poetry teaching is an important part of Sinology education.As far as teachers in senior high school are concerned,they are to fully understand the concept and requirements of the New Curriculum Reform and change the out-of-dated teaching situation to serve the ancient poetry teaching in senior high school and improve the students' ability to mention quality better.
