With the increasing scale of graduate students,the problem about graduate education has become emerged.Postgraduate training pattern has the tendency of being undergraduate training pattern.The teaching method is old-fashioned and singular,and graduate students lack creation and intrinsic motivation.Postgraduate education reform is emergency under this background.Seminar is a way of discussion between teacher and student,under the guidance of teacher,combining teaching and research.It's a teaching method,a course,an academic activity or a way of academic communication.In America,almost universities have implemented seminars in higher and lower levels and included it into normal teaching program,which play a significant role in cultivating research ability of graduate student.Nowadays,many Chinese universities have implemented seminar in postgraduate education,however,still being in the stage of exploration.Whether in terms of theory or practice,it exist lots of problems.In the base of previous researches at home and abroad,combing theory and practice,firstly this paper introduces the history and current situation of implementation of Chinese and American seminar,then summarize the achievements and shortcomings with literature research method.Secondly,the paper analyzes the operation mode,operation process,situation of implementing and graduate student'attendance,intention and evaluation,and the influences of Chinese graduate student seminar with questionnaire survey method.Thirdly,it analyzes the operation mode,operation process and implementation effects of graduate student seminar of American university,and then compares with graduate student seminar of Chinese university in the aspect of operation and implementation effects with comparative analysis method.The conclusion of this paper are:first,the lower frequency of liberal arts graduate students seminar of Chinese university and the lower enthusiasm of liberal arts graduates;second,the quality differences of graduate student seminar of different types of Chinese universities;third,the single forms of graduate student seminar of Chinese universities;four,the imperfect organization and management mechanism of graduate student seminar of Chinese universities;five,the poorer initiative of attending seminar of Chinese graduate student.Finally,this paper offers some suggestions and strategies in the aspect of graduate student,tutor,organization and management,and academic environment.
