The Study On Undergraduate Seminar's Creative Talents Ability Cultivation In American Research University

Undergraduate Seminar has played a very important role on curriculum and teaching system since it was established in Harward University. At the same time, it's very important for American research universities, especially on student's innovative spirits and abilities. This article aims to explore undergraduate seminar's function for forming undergraduate's creative talents,seminar's actualities and problems fall crossed in undergraduate curriculum systems, finally points out it's inspiration for our country's research universities.The introduction of this article explained the paper's meanings,purpose,main contents and research methods, and defined"American Research University"and"Seminar"finally.The first chapter reviewed seminar's setting and adoption in American's research universities'curriculum and teaching systems, analyzed university's advantages for setting seminar, finally pointed out problems that universities meet : lacking funding,not suit for every student,arousing teacher's severe conflicting between teaching and research,being affected seriously by utilitarian thinking and existing unbalance between natural science and humanities.The second chapter explored seminar's function for cultivating creative talents. First we expound and prove the fact logically: the orientation of American Research University decided the necessity of adopting seminar, and then analyzed the seminar's function for creative talents function. Finally pointed out that the research atmosphere,well-knit off-class research,validity of class discussion,teacher's guidance level are the important factors affected seminar's functions for cultivating creative talents.In the third chapter,we took the examples for Harvard university/ Stanford university and Duke university, for the sake of explaining the functions for fostering innovative person , and explained the coherences and differences at three schools.The final chapter was about the inspiration that American research universities brought for china's research universities. Chinese universities seminar in undergraduate degree has to face many difficulties that has to be solved properly. The main problems of undergraduate seminar in our country are: teaching effect,students'initiative,study results,choosing topics. We should strengthen academic atmosphere and research atmosphere in our universities, really change the traditional meaning that knowledge teaching is the main teaching task, improved the teaching funds and hardware facilities, and at the same time we should do more on the practical efficiency to avoid the formalism.
