The overseas Chinese teaching has been increasingly abundant in its teaching models and strategies during the recent decades. Aiming to the widespread establishment of Chinese classes in the communities, elementary schools, junior high schools and universities in the U.S., the author will focus on researching the learning situation of the kids (Pre-K-K5) in the short-term Chinese class and the relevant inspiration to the Chinese teaching concepts as well as the methods, taking 2016 Chinese Summer Camp in the University of Kansas as an example.According to the features of the Summer Camp and the rules of the development of the children, the Chinese class will be student-centered, taking TPR Approach,Communicative Approach, Children's Song Approach, Activity Approach and other highly interactive, participant and welcomed teaching methods to realize the most language input in the limited time, thus achieving the effective language output. Chinese culture teaching is another research highlights besides the language teaching. The thesis comes up with some suggestions and specific cases on the design and implementation of cultural activities. In the thesis, the author will take the Thematic Based Approach as the main teaching model and illustrate the 5 factors related in detail. Some authentic teaching cases provided on the base of this theory have achieved good results. In the final chapter of the thesis, the author gives some advice on the current problems existed in the Chinese Summer Camp of the Confucius Institute, such as the principles of text book-editing, some references related, most importantly, the application of the STEAM theory in Chinese Camp teaching. It is of quite importance in the tendency of development of education in the U.S., for thus Chinese teaching will keep the pace with times, adapting well in the U.S. with more creative and scientific teaching thoughts.
