Universities has started to focus on teaching and improving teaching's quality since Ernest L.Boyer put up a concept of “ Scholarship of Teaching and Learning(SoTL).Recently,there are many studies of SoTL which is a heated studying-point.However,the study of teacher's SoTL ability is not sufficient,and the study of constructing a structure model of So TL is also very limited.Because of this kind of study's shortage,the analysis of teachers' SoTL ability is lack for dimensions of studying,and the strategy of improving SoTL ability is lack for theoretical basis.Therefore,constructing a structure model of teachers' SoTL ability is very necessary and meaningful to studies in future.After discussing the connotation and characteristic and importance of teachers' SoTL ability,this study analyses the elements of teachers' SoTL ability,which is based on Rice's Academic Dimension Theory and Vernon's Capability Hierarchy Theory.It puts up a structure model of teachers' So TL ability according to a large number of studies.Except some theoretical analyses,this study also combines the empirical results.It chooses some college teachers to check those theoretical elements,which can verify the results.At last,Based on the structural model,the author come up with some improving strategies.This study gets many results.Firstly,teachers' SoTL ability is not same with teaching ability.They have differences and connections.Because of teaching ability,teachers' SoTL ability can be developed very well.Secondly,according to Vernon's Capability Hierarchy Theory,the author builds a structure that has two group after analysing many papers.The first group is general group,which contains teaching ability and academic ability;The second group is special group,which contains professional knowledge ability,reflecting study ability,sharing communication ability and teaching and theory innovation ability.Thirdly,according to the Spiral Iteration's principles and the philosophical theory of materialist dialectics,the author construct the structural model of teachers' SoTL ability.Based on this spiral iteration structure model of teachers' SoTL ability,the author gives the possible path of improving teachers' SoTL ability.The strategies contains: reinforce the knowledge base and enhance professional strength;pay attention to reflection and teaching;be positive to share and communicate;develop the innovation mind and put up new ideas.
