In the current English teaching in high school, "reading" and "writing" are unbalanced and dissociated. "Reading" takes up the most attention and time in teaching.Most of reading classes are based on the words and grammar, aiming to comprehend and understand the text. However, as for the writing, the students don't know what and how to write, nor do the teachers know what and how to teach. The students' writing skills are trained by means of taking exams. There are no writing classes at all. The traditional writing teaching ignores the link between reading and writing. Based on the theories of Krashen and Swain, reading and writing provide the input and output of the language study. They are inseparable and synergistic. More and more researchers home and abroad have explored and verified the effectiveness of integration reading and writing approach and made a lot of achievements. Finding a suitable teaching method to combine the two will improve the ability of students' writing skills.This research begins with the nature of writing followed by the different approaches to teaching writing, which have been put forward in recent years. Then it summarizes the theoretical basis of the practical teaching methods put forward in the study: the theory of input and output, constructivism and memetics. And then it analyzes the relevant researches of integration of reading and writing home and abroad and Combining the related theories and practical teaching experience, the writer puts forward three strategies when designing a teaching method. Analyzing the characteristics of the text, the teacher can design from three aspects: structure, language and idea of the text. There are also four types of writing that can be designed into the teaching: imitative writing;abbreviation; adaptation; creative writing. The study experiments with the students of Grade Two from the middle school attached to HUST. During the two terms, the writer applied this method to the teaching of the experimental class in order to test the effectiveness of Integration of Reading and Writing Approach. During the research, the writer applies questionnaires, esquires and test data analysis, which includes pre-test and after-test.The data show that there are some problems in students' writing learning. They show no interest in writing and find it really hard to write in English. Meanwhile,teachers can't find a very effective way to train students' writing skills. The integration of reading and writing can improve it in some degree. As is shown in the result of the after-test and the feedback questionnaire, the students become better at organizing the writing and their vocabulary and grammar are also improved. It proves that this teaching method accords with the principles and characteristics of learning. It is a very effective teaching method which can improve the students' writing abilities. In teaching, the teachers should analyze the reading text and combine writing and reading to form a scientific teaching.
