The English Curriculum Standard in High School issued by the Ministry of Education puts forward new requirements in developing students' comprehensive ability to use language.And it also gives specific standards in listening,speaking,reading and writing.But nowadays,many schools still adopt the traditional teaching method which not only can not satisfy new curriculum standards,but its drawbacks become evident: for example,the ignorance of stimulating students' interest;lack of the guidance in reading strategies and skills;scarcity of intensive reading training and so on.All of these defects have a bad effect on students' learning and the overall improvement of the English level.So more and more transformations and innovations of the teaching models have been explored by teachers and experts all around the country,trying to compensate for the drawbacks of the traditional teaching model.In this study,the author of the thesis takes the characteristics of emotion and emotional words at home and abroad as foundation,and combined with practical teaching experience,exploring how to improve students' reading and writing ability and stimulate their interest in reading.The teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words includes the following specific procedures: dividing teams,analysis,debating,writing and review,during which the teacher inspires students to use reading skills and strategies based on the analysis of the emotional words to analyze the articles.These skills and strategies are association,prediction,emotional analysis and so on.The purpose of this study is to explore the following questions: 1)Can the teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words stimulate students' reading interest? 2)Can the teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words improve students' reading ability? 3)Can the teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words improve students' writing ability?In the process of the study,two classes' students of Senior Two(Class 2 and Class 5)are selected as the research subjects.Class 2 is the experimental class in which the author of the thesis applied the new teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words.Class 5 is the control class in which the traditional teaching model was adopted.During the research,the author of the thesis first uses the questionnaire to explore the students' change before and after the experiment from four dimensions: interest and motivation,reading skills and strategies,writing ability,attention and effort.And then by using the pre-test and post-test,the author tries to find out whether the new teaching model can improve students' reading and writing grades.After the semester's experimental research,it can be found that:First,the teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words can stimulate students' interest.After the experiment,students are more satisfied with their study and can get the pleasure from reading.And the motivation of English study transforms from external motivation to self-improvement motivation.Second,the teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words can improve students' reading ability.After acquiring the reading skills and strategies like association,prediction and the analysis of emotion,students have a deeper understanding of the articles.Third,the teaching model based on the analysis of the emotional words has a positive transfer effect on students' English writing.Students show improvement in the appropriate usage of words,the organization and coherence of the article structure and the vividness and richness of writing.
