Rudder is an important body which adjusts the course and the balance the hull traverse.The hull and rudder hydrodynamics is essential for the games.This study based on the CFD numerical method and simulated the viscous flow of the sole rudder,the sole hull and the combination of the rudder and the hull in Class 470 yacht based on the Reynolds average Navier-Stokes equations(RANSE).Study shows that with the increase of speed,the resistance of the hull and rudder were exponent increased.And the stall angle is about 30 degrees among the series changes in the rudder angle,and with the increase of speed,the rudder angle of stall will slightly increase,while the ship speed is 10m/s,the rudder stall angle is about 35 degrees;the rudder body will not obviously increase the hull resistance,but has rectification effect on wake,and make the ship wave complexity decrease with the wave wake dissipation length shortened.The results based on series speed and rudder angle series preliminary computed the radius of gyration at different speeds and different rudder angle of the ship rudder,the differences are small.Based on the calculation results,in the sailing process,increasing the speed with high lift rudder angle of rotation as far as possible will effectively save the time of the game,and offer references of rudder manipulation for the athletes when sailing.While the study of the hull and rudder hydrodynamics with different rudder angles and different speeds,the simulation results of a series of studies on the rudder were confirmed compared to the theories of professional book.Then the efficiency of the approach is confirmed by calculating.Analyzing the results combined with the sailing rules and the sailing route in the actual competition process will effectively promote the coaches and athletes to understand the operating theory and explore the application rules of rudder steering,around the standard and get rid of the penalty in sailing,while also provide theoretical reference for the athletes to manipulate sailing in an more scientific way.
