English writing is an important part of junior high school in the process of English teaching,and it is also an important index to measure the application of students' comprehensive English learning competence.However,in the process of English teaching,English writing is often ignored by teachers and students.What's more,many schools still adopt traditional teaching method that teachers make students translate Chinese into English word by word.This traditional writing method is difficult to motivate students' enthusiasm of writing,which makes some students lose their writing interest.Therefore,it is an important teaching task for present-day English teachers to try to find an effective and appropriate English writing method.After learning and studying quantities of literature data,the author finds that researchers have applied the schema theory to many fields,such as philosophy,psychology,cognitive science,English teaching and so on.However,in English teaching,the schema theory is mainly applied in English reading and translating,but seldom in English writing,especially in junior high school.Schema is a network of knowledge and experience about a topic stored in one's mind.According to the schema theory,the knowledge stored in one's mind can be activated and rebuilt,which is,in turn,becoming his or her new knowledge.The thesis puts the schema theory into practice in the English writing teaching and tries to find an effective way to enhance students' writing competence in junior high school.In order to test whether the schema theory can improve the English writing teaching in junior high school,the author conducts an experimental research about the schema theory applied in the English writing teaching.Before the experiment,the author puts forward two research questions:1.What main problems exist in students' writing in junior high school?2.What is the effect in improving students' writing competence by applying the schema theory to English writing teaching?The author carries out the teaching experiment which adopts the qualitative method and the quantitative method.The author selects two parallel classes as the experimental subjects specifically in the practice junior high school.The two classes adopt different writing methods.One class is called experimental class,which adopts the teaching methods under the guidance of the schema theory.The other is called controlled class,which adopts the traditional teaching method.The experiment lasts four months.In the experimental process,the author uses the pre-test,post-test,questionnaires and interviews to ensure the scientificity of this experiment.After the experiment,the author adopts the software SPSS20 to analyze the experimental data collected from the questionnaires,the tests and the interview.From the data analysis,we can see the sig(2-tailed)=0.000.On this occasion,the results can indicate that the schema theory can not only stimulate students' writing interest but also improve students' writing competence and their writing scores.We can find that it is feasible to apply the schema theory to English writing teaching in junior high school.
