Vocabulary is one of the most important components in language learning.The vocabulary acquisition and proficiency may influence the development of students' comprehensive in using English.Being taught with the traditional teaching methods(such as,read---explain---memorize mold),students gradually lose the interest and confidence in English learning.Affected by objective and subjective factors,this phenomenon is particularly common in rural junior schools.According to the reality of rural students,it is necessary for the teachers to apply a new teaching method to enhance students' interest in English vocabulary learning.Game teaching,in short,is a method which allows the knowledge to be taught in the form of games,and makes the students master the target knowledge or extracurricular knowledge in the relaxing atmosphere,various activities or in the fierce competition.The games designed in teaching are not only to “play”,but also should have some characteristic of their own,such as,purpose,subjectivity,regularity and competitiveness.Game teaching conforms to the cognitive rules of students,enables students to participate in classroom activities actively,turning the passive leaning to active participation.What's more,using games in teaching,to some extent,can eliminate students' rejection to memorizing lots of vocabulary.Meantime,it can improve students' interest in vocabulary learning.In a word,game teaching is a method proved by many educators in English-speaking countries to be an effective method to acquire vocabulary.In the research,the author chooses 60 students in Grade 8 from Liu Qu Middle School,Fu Ping to precede the teaching experiment which lasts for a term.This research is built around two questions: First,can classroom games stimulate the rural junior middle school students' interest in English vocabulary learning? Second,can games used in English vocabulary teaching improve students' vocabulary grades in exams? There are three states in the teaching experiment: first of all,before the experiment,the author conducted the first questionnaire to learn students' basic attitude to English vocabulary leaning.Next,during teaching procedure,the author conducted 4 vocabulary test to detect whether games used in English vocabulary teaching can improve students' grades;after the teaching experiment,the second questionnaire was conducted to find whether the students' interest in vocabulary learning is improved.Finally,the author collected and analyzed the questionnaires and test data.Through the experiment the author make a conclusion that game teaching plays an important role in improve students' interest in vocabulary learning.Meantime,in some degree,it is can improve students' grades.
