Mind mapping is a visual cognitive tool that can help learners to learn and think.This kind of pictorial tool enhances learners' memory ability with the aid of pictures,colors,key words and lines,which makes the central figure become the focus of attention to promote learners' learning.New English Curriculum Standards for senior high school(Experiment)(2003)points out that vocabulary is the basis for learning English and the linchpin to learning English well.However,it has always been one of the difficult points for English teaching and learning in high school.Being lack of scientific methods,many high schools students are afraid of learning vocabulary and efficiency of learning vocabulary is rather low.As a result,they gradually lose interest in English learning.This paper takes the knowledge visualization theory,constructivism theory,brain science learning theory as a guide.Mind mapping is applied to English vocabularyteaching in senior high school,taking senior two of xxx middle school students in Guyuan city as the research object.The study uses literature,experimental method,questionnaire and interviews for data collection and analysis,demonstrating the effectiveness of mind mapping applied to high school English vocabulary teaching.The results of data analysis indicate that the experimental class in the four words test and comprehensive test scores are apparently higher than that of the control class,the experimental results show that mind mapping not only has the effect of promoting teaching for senior high school students' English vocabulary,namely mind mapping can improve the students' English learning efficiency,representation and extraction of English words,learning interest and promote English learning,but also can help students form good learning habits.
