Academic shame is a common academic emotions,refers to student's Academic shame refers to student's achievement shame experienced under school or university circumstances.Shame experienced under school or university circumstances.The purpose of this study is to examine the developmental trends of academic shame in middle school students,the impact of academic shame on the academic performance of middle school students and the possible moderating roles of academic self-efficacy in academic shame affecting academic achievement.In this study,970 middle school students were tested using the " The Academic Shame Questionnaire" and "The Academic Self-Efficacy Questionnaire",and two test scores were collected as the academic achievement measures.The results show that:(1)The gender difference of academic shame is significant,the academic shame level of the girls is higher than that of the boys;There is a significant difference between the only child and the non-only child,and the latter is higher than the former;There are significant differences among different grades students' achievement shame,higher grade students have higher academic shame than those of lower grades;(2)There was no significant correlation between academic shame and academic self-efficacy and academic achievement,but academic self-efficacy and academic performance were significantly correlated.(3)Prediction concerning academic self-efficacy moderating the relationship between academic and academic achievement is not supported by the data.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1.Female middle school students experience more academic shame than male students,non-only child experienced a higher level of shame than the only child,the academic shame of middle school students gradually decreases while the grade increase.2.The academic shame of middle school students can not effectively predict their academic achievement and academic self-efficacy.But the academic self-efficacy can effectively predict the academic achievement of secondary school students.3.Academic self-efficacy does not have a moderating role in the relationship between academic shame and academic achievement of middle school students.
