Unavoidably students will be confronted with the related culture when learning the English language,especially in English reading where cultural infiltration takes place.However,English reading teaching in middle schools has still emphasized language study,including words,sentences,grammar,ignoring the teaching of English culture.The importance and necessity of the students' cross-cultural awareness have not been paid enough attention to.In order to understand the students ' overall understanding of cross-cultural awareness,the main methods that teachers take in class and how to improve the students ' reading ability through the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness,the author go deep in to middle School English Reading classes,hoping to change the traditional teaching mode,and put forward the appropriate cultural training method.For providing a first-hand reference for teachers.The author conducted a long-term study and took two parallel Grade Two classes in a middle school as the research object,the research was conducted by questionnaire survey and reading tests.Based on the experimental results,the author has drawn conclusions as follows:1)The questionnaire survey results show that they are interested in cross-cultural awareness,but the overall cross-cultural consciousness is weak,they rarely combine language knowledge and cultural knowledge together.2)The teacher questionnaires show that most of teachers haven?t pay enough importance to cross-cultural,they still adopt the traditional teaching methods,English reading teaching form is single,the teaching method is lack of planning and systematicness.3)comparison of the pre-text and post-text results shows that the progress of the students? reading ability is obvious.The author found that adopting the new teaching method could cultivate the students' reading efficiency,way of thinking and reading ability.To improve the students' reading proficiency through the cultivation of cross cultural awareness is a long process,not overnight,need the joint efforts of teachers and students.As teachers to enhance their own cultural connotation and students play their own initiative.Due to my teaching level,with the help of the research tools and such factors as the research time,this study has certain limitations.How to further and systematically and completely to teach cultural knowledge,in the later study,still need further discussion.
