Language is the carrier of culture. It is unavoidable for the students to confront the related culture when learning language. The pervasive influence of English-speaking countries’ culture is very significant in the teaching of English reading. The obstacle of English reading comprehension exists in not only vocabulary and grammar, but also the cultural background knowledge and the cultural differences between English and Chinese.However, the senior school English reading teaching in china has placed much emphasis on the practice of language form rather than the teaching of foreign culture for a long time.The necessity and importance of the cultivation of students’ intercultural awareness is not got enough attention. The cross-culture awareness should mean the sensitivity of the difference and similarity between the foreign culture and the native culture, and the awareness to adjust one’s own language comprehension and language output according to the culture of the target language(such as English)while using the foreign language. The sensitivity and awareness can be developed.First of all, this paper reviews the concerned research on the cultivation of intercultural awareness and reading teaching of abroad and domestic. Then, by the means of investigation and interview, the author has a better understanding of the senior students’ attitudes English culture and cultural education in English reading teaching. Based on the survey, the paper discusses how to permeate the cultural knowledge and explore the strategies of training students’ cross-culture awareness in the English reading teaching.Furthermore, the cross-cultural teaching model for reading class has been constructed,which will lead to the improvement of students’ reading abilities in the long term.
