| Academic contending is of great importance to the academic development.With the reform and development of higher education in China over the past three decades,higher education has been developing fast as an emerging discipline.This paper is concerned with the content and objective of academic contending relevant to higher education research in China over the past three decades.By means of literature review,this paper has made a summary of academic contending so as to give a general view on the theories related to higher education in China from the new age.Besides summarizing the development course and main problems regarding the research into higher education in China,this paper aims to draw more attention of those scholars to academic contending.Firstly summarize major problems regarding academic contending related to higher education research in China from 1980.It will also elaborate on the origin,process,representative figures,main views and evaluation on academic contending.The main issues about academic contending related to higher education research in China from the new age have included the controversy over the reform in the system of higher education in 1985,the disciplines of higher education and research field,the laws about higher education,the relationship between higher education and market economy,the popularity of higher education,basic functions of higher education institution,the relationship between education and research as well as the professor’s management of school and research.Secondly make a summary of the features of academic contending related to higher education in China from 1980.As to the quantity,the number of the articles and researches relevant to academic contending is relatively small,which means that the academic contending about high education is far from sufficient.With regard to the quality,some of academic contending still remains at the superficial level,which means that the high-quality and in-depth academic contending is quite rare.As to the content,the academic contending has covered the theoretical issues and practical problems.In addition,the number of those intellectuals participating in academic contending with the critical thinking is still small.Hence,the author has offered some advice on how to promote the development of academic contending about higher education in three respects,namely cultivating the critical spirit,improving the atmosphere of academic contending as well as using academic journals as the guidance for academic contending.In view of the limited research ability of the author,the great variety of problems concerned as well as the long time for research,this research still remains to be improved in terms of literature selection and research depth.Further research into how to push forward the development of academic contending should be also made. |
