Nowadays, phonics is not only a way children of English-speaking countries use to learn English is also becoming one of the most important ways for English beginners to learn English pronunciation and spelling in the countries where English is regarded as a second or foreign language. At present, although there are a large number of researches on phonics, most of them are concerned with the influence of phonics on learners'language ability or language learning. There is little research regarding the influence of phonics on the nonlinguistic outcome of English learning. In view of this, the purpose of this paper is to explore whether learners' English learning motivation, general English self-concept,English pronunciation self-concept and English learning self-efficacy will change following phonics learning and training. To answer the above questions, the author carried out an experiment for two months. The experimental class received a series of phonics training consecutively during the time period, and the control class received no training. It was found that phonics learning and training can improve learners' general English self-concept and English pronunciation self-concept,and enhance learners' English learning motivation and English learning self-efficacy as well.Of them English learning self-efficacy increased the most.
