Compared with ordinary high school students,students of secondary vocational school are in a relatively neglected position.In recent years,the government is vigorously developing the secondary vocational education.The contemporary English teaching pays more attention to the main role of the learners.And how to teach students how to learn has become one of the important contents of English teaching.In the full time compulsory education,like primary school,junior middle school,as well as the senior middle school,the English Curriculum Standards takes learning strategies as one of the main curriculum objectives.Comparatively,specific studies on learning strategies of secondary vocational school students are in a relatively neglected position.The fact is that most of the students in secondary vocational school failed in the entrance examination for senior high school,which can be inferred that these students are lack of learning strategies,which may result in low learning achievement.In this view,it is necessary to investigate the overall situation of using English learning strategies among secondary vocational school students,including the guidance and training of English teachers in English learning strategies.In addition,the use of English learning strategies not only contributes to the improvement of learning efficiency,but also has an important influence on English autonomous learning and lifelong learning in the future.Therefore,at present,the overall situation of secondary vocational school students' English learning strategies is worth exploring.The present study mainly involves three aspects:1.What is the overall situation of students' use of English learning strategies in Jing Zhou and Zhi Jiang Secondary Vocational School?2.As English learning strategies mainly include cognitive strategies,meta-cognitive strategies,affective strategies and communication strategies,among these strategies,which strategies are used the most frequently?Which are used the least frequently?Why?3.Through the collective interviews,to understand the situation of English learning strategies use situation,(including the analysis of the situation of the class and how to train the learning strategies in the future teaching);what are the general views on English learning strategies among the secondary vocational school English teachers?By adopting the methods of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis,it aims to understand students' English learning strategies use situation and the reason in two secondary vocational schools Huai hua area in Hunan province.The qualitative analysis is based on semi-structured interview,while the quantitative part of the study mainly adopts the questionnaire.The results show as follows:1.On the whole,the frequency of using English learning strategies in both Jing Zhou Secondary Vocational School and Zhi Jiang Secondary Vocational School are relatively low.Luckily,most of the students hold a positive attitude towards English learning,but the situation is still not optimistic,there is urgent need for relevant training of strategies in English learning of students.2.The survey showed that students use affective strategies relatively more frequent,compared with other strategies,specifically their performance in offering help and encouraging others in English learning and having positive learning attitude.3.The interview results show that some teachers are skeptical about the use of learning strategies.In their opinion,English learning strategies training for the students is regarding the students as the test items,not conducive to the current situation of the university entrance exam,but at the same time,they said in the future they will give consideration to applicable English learning strategies teaching,and strengthen the training of learning strategies.Through this study,it is hoped that both teachers and students' awareness of learning strategies and the practical use of English learning strategies may be increased.And the data and interview results may provide revelation and suggestions for the secondary vocational education in Huai Hua area and help the students to learn easily,then can help secondary vocational students learning English efficiency,cultivate students' autonomous learning and lifelong learning ability.In addition,it is also hoped to give some feasible suggestions on the training of English learning strategies for English teachers in the future.
