Vocabulary learning strategy is a hot issue in the study of second language acquisition. This study aims to find out what English vocabulary learning strategies are employed by Network Management major students at secondary vocational school and whether explicit training effectively improves their English vocabulary learning.The instruments used in the study are one questionnaire, and two vocabulary tests. The results of this study reveals that,(1) The students hold a belief that vocabulary should be learned through application and context.(2) They preferred cognitive strategies to metacognitive and social/affective strategies.(3) Three strategies, namely, Selective Attention, Dictionary, Rote-learning had higher frequency of application in vocabulary learning.(4) The results have revealed that the high-proficiency students used strategies more frequently than low-proficiency students.(5) The students' test scores after the vocabulary learning strategies training are significant difference their test scores before the training.This thesis analyses these findings respectively, and offers some implications for both students and teachers.
