Reading and writing are the two focuses in English teaching.As a result,the main task of English teaching is to enhance students' ability of reading,writing and critical thinking.As middle school English teachers,we have to think about these aspects,such as how to teach students to read and write,how to enhance the students' ability of critical thinking,and ultimately achieve a win-win goal.The essence of teaching reading and writing is the process of collision and communication between texts,teachers and students.Therefore,the teaching of reading and thinking is closely related.Also,the intrinsic mechanism of listening,speaking and writing itself is a kind of thinking activity,and perception,understanding and evaluation often involve intuitive thinking,logical thinking and divergent thinking.Therefore,the reading and writing process is full of speculative factors.However,in the current English teaching,many teachers pay little attention to the cultivation of students' critical thinking ability.Taking reading lessons and writing lessons as an example,many teachers adopt the teaching method of separating reading from writing.As a result,they fail to train the students' ability of expressing themselves in English and ignore the training of the students' critical thinking ability.According to the Problem Solving Theory,the Theory of Thinking Skills as well Social and Cultural History Theory by Vigosky,and also based on the experiment which was carried out from February to June last term,we aimed to find the internal association between combined reading-writing mode and the development of critical thinking ability.Moreover,we tried to find the effective ways of combining reading and writing as well as exploring the training strategies of enhancing students' ability of critical thinking in junior high schools.This thesis focuses on the following three questions:1.Can Combination of Reading and Writing promote the improvement of junior highschool students in the test of critical thinking skills?2.Can Combination of Reading and Writing have an effect on the junior high schoolstudents towards critical thinking orientation?3.Can Combination of Reading and Writing enhance self-confidence of junior high school students in critical thinking?In this study,quantitative research and qualitative research are combined.Experimentalmethods and questionnaires are used as the main method,and personal interviews are used to collect relevant data.The quantitative data processing mainly uses the SPSS to carry on the statistical analysis.At the same time,I made a conclusion to the qualitative research result.Finally,we obtained the research results as follows:1.Combination of Reading and Writing can promote the improvement of juniormiddle school students in the test of critical thinking skills.2.Combination of Reading and Writing can have an effect on the critical thinkingorientation.of junior middle school students.3.Combination of Reading and Writing can enhance self-confidence of junior middle school students in critical thinking.
