The primary objective of the new curriculum reform is to eliminate the drawbacks of exam-oriented education,promote education quality and realize human integrated development.In the course of the process,teachers are the core of the whole project,which requires teachers to be fully engaged in their teaching in order to gain the maximum achievement in teaching and fulfill the goal of cultivating the talents.Thus teachers' work engagement is the hot issue that the educational administrations and high schools care about.Work engagement refers to the integrating state of the teachers' devotion and dedication as well as exploration in their teaching.It is the total sum of a teacher's time,energy and emotion in teaching and it is also the guarantee of the teachers' expectation towards the excellence.Generally speaking,the teachers' work engagement is positively related to the teaching quality,which means the more time,energy and emotion are engaged in teaching,the better teaching quality will be achieved.This study focuses on the junior high school English teachers' time engagement,energy engagement,emotional engagement and other factors that affect the teaching outcomes.The research questions contained in the study are as follows: What is the general situation of the English teachers' work engagement in Heze junior high schools? What are the other factors that affect English teachers' work engagement? Based on the research questions and literature,this study adapts a questionnaire and takes 158 English teachers as objects in junior high schools in Heze.At the same time,interviews are carried out with six English teachers from three types of junior high schools.With the approaches of interview and questionnaire survey,this study collects data about junior high school English teachers' work engagement.By analyzing the data,findings lie in the facts that the English teachers investigated do well in time and energy engagement,but have more problems in emotional engagement.The salient problems manifest themselves in the lack of teaching enthusiasm,work interest,sense of achievement and creative abilities,among which emerged the key factor of attitude towards whether they regard English teaching as a career or a profession.Based on the findings,this study suggests that the educational administrations and high schools should immediately take measures to inspire English teachers and encourage them in work engagement,especially in emotional engagement.Thus the teaching competence of junior high school English teachers will be developed.
