Vocabulary plays an important part in high school English learning.Now most students have poor mastery of English words in the school where I work.Many students think it is difficult to study English words.Heavy learning tasks and much pressure made students have difficulty memorizing the words they have learned.Gradually some students give up reciting English words.In my school,there are also many teachers who use traditional vocabulary teaching method.That is,reading,reciting and writing method.Gradually for some students who have little vocabulary and have little time,English words mastery may become a difficult problem.Some English teachers are constantly exploring new vocabulary teaching methods to promote English vocabulary teaching in senior high schools,among which Cooperative Learning is a widely adopted method in the middle school at present.This paper mainly studies the application of cooperative learning theory in senior high school English vocabulary teaching.Whether it can improve the efficiency of students' English words learning is to be testified.After some years' of teaching practice,the author wants to use cooperative learning method to teach English vocabulary.The author hopes that this method can improve students' efficiency of memorizing words.At the same time.It is also hoped that students can know better about the cooperation and the team,and can improve their consciousness of cooperation and teamwork.Cooperative learning is based on groups.It began in 1970 s and developed between 1970 s and 1980 s.Cooperative learning can make the atmosphere of class active.It can also improve the interest of students.The author teaches two parallel classes now,the total number of each class is 50.The two classes served as the subjects of the study.Class 6 is the experimental class,in which cooperative learning method is used to learn English words.Class 15 is the control class in which traditional ways of English teaching is used.Before the experiment,in order to observe the differences between the students,the author offers the same words tests to the two classes,and uses the questionnaires to know more about the students' thoughts,their advantages and disadvantages.On the basis of cooperative learning theory,this paper uses the experimental method,questionnaire method and interview method.This paper puts forward an assumption,that is,cooperative learning can improve students' learning efficiency of English words.The author hopes that this study can facilitate a conclusion that cooperative learning can help students study English vocabulary.Indeed,this study proves that cooperative learning method can facilitate students in their vocabulary study effectively and that it can make students have cooperation consciousness.It can improve the interest of students as well.This paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.The second chapter is literature review,and this chapter introduces related theory and relevant definition.The third chapter is the application of the cooperative learning theory to English vocabulary teaching in senior middle schools.The fourth chapter is the results and discussion of the study.The fifth chapter is conclusion.
