Since the implementation of the curriculum reform,great changes have taken place in primary school English classroom teaching,but there are still some problems that need to be solved and paid more attention to.Phonetics is the basis of English learning,but there is still a certain gap between the degree of attention paid to pronunciation teaching,especially in rural areas,the basic teaching has not yet reached the requirements of the new curriculum.Teachers' phonetic ability and English literacy need to be further improved and standardized.According to the basic requirements of compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard(2011),the cultivation of comprehensive language use ability is the most important part of English teaching.The standards at all levels describe the operational requirements of the basic skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing.These requirements require teachers to shift the teaching focus to improve students' ability to use language,and phonetic teaching as one of the important content of language use ability should not be ignored.The purpose of phonetic teaching is to help students to understand the characteristics and rules of English pronunciation,to help students better perceive English pronunciation,to imitate English pronunciation and intonation effectively,and to receive English phonetic information more accurately.By investigating the present situation of English pronunciation teaching in rural primary schools,this thesis aims to find out the problems existing in the teaching of English pronunciation in rural primary schools,in order to find out the essential deficiencies of classroom teaching through the problems,and try to provide some effective suggestions for them.First of all,this thesis clarifies the importance of English pronunciation teaching in primary schools,reviews the development of phonetic teaching at home and abroad,and establishes the research ideas and methods.Secondly,a systematic analysis is made on the present situation of English pronunciation teaching in a rural primary school by means of a questionnaire survey,an interview with the teachers and a thorough classroom observation.The problems in English pronunciation teaching in this primary school are found out from several dimensions of the classroom teaching process,and the root causes of the problems are analyzed.Based on this,a corresponding solution is put forward to solve the existing problems and causes.The specific suggestions are explained from six aspects: improving teachers' professional quality of pronunciation,strengthening teachers' attention to phonological training,paying attention to the training of teachers' pronunciation in all aspects,choosing appropriate phonetic teaching strategies;using multiple phonetic teaching methods and implementing scientific phonetic evaluation methods.Therefore,based on the classroom teaching practice,this thesis hopes that the suggestions can improve the quality of English pronunciation teaching in rural areas and improve the present situation of English pronunciation teaching in rural primary schools.
