English writing is an integrated skill.It plays an important role during the process of language learning.However,in teacher-centered class,many students are negative towards writing.Students are passive because they have to follow the teacher’s teaching steps.So their creative thinking ability can not be developed.Gradually,students will lose their interests and motivation in writing,and some of them even give up English writing.Considering this situation,it is essential for the teacher to apply stratified teaching approach,which is suitable for all the students and based on individual’s differences.In a word,stratified teaching approach can meet all the students’ needs and it can improve their writing capabilities.This thesis aims to testify the effectiveness of the application of the pedagogy of stratified teaching in English writing class with the following two questions:(1)What are the effects of stratified teaching on student’s writing?(2)What are the changes of students’ attitudes towards writing based on stratified teaching approach? In order to solve these two problems,the author carries on an experiment for three months in two parallel classes in grade eight of one middle school in Shenyang.The experimental class,class1 adopts the stratified teaching approach and the control class,the traditional teaching method is applied in class 3.Three instruments are used during the experiment,including questionnaire,test and interview.Questionnaires are used before and after experiment to investigate the changes of the attitudes towards English writing.Interview is used to check whether students change between the negative attitude and the positive one after the experiment.Meanwhile,pre-test and post-test are used to investigate students’ performance on English writing achievement.The results are analyzed with the help of SPSS 13.0 to answer the research questions.The results show that the stratified teaching approach has improved students’ writing ability.And the students have been tend to hold positive attitudes towards English writing after applying the stratified teaching approach in experiment class.There are some limitations and the pedagogical suggestions presented at the end of the thesis.
