“Critical thinking” is a very important way of thinking.Under the environment of examination oriented education in China,students lack the ability to think independently,which is not conducive to the cultivation of innovative talents in our country.Therefore,the purpose of this thesis is to study senior high school English teaching materials,analyse critical thinking characteristics of this textbook,and provide suggestions for senior high school English teachers to cultivate students' critical thinking ability in the classroom.The teaching material is the main way for students to learn English.As the basis for teaching and the carrier of knowledge,which provides a very important guiding significance for teachers.Through the analysis of the critical thinking characteristics embodied in the teaching materials,teachers can better grasp the teaching materials and train students' thinking ability,which is conducive to cultivating students' critical thinking ability and innovative ability.By combing the relevant literature at home and abroad,this paper analyzes the concept,characteristics and the concrete dimension framework of critical thinking,and analyzes the critical thinking ability of the senior high school English textbooks based on this framework.And then through the classroom observation,investigation,interview and other research methods,teachers' critical thinking ability training consciousness,attitude and the implementation of critical thinking ability training in classroom teaching are observed,some problems are discovered and some practical suggestions are put forward.The specific research contents include the following three aspects: first,the author analyzes the English textbooks in the senior high school,and studies the characteristics of critical thinking in the textbooks;second,the author observes teachers' designs teaching design and teaching activities in the classroom,finds out teachers' awareness of students' critical thinking ability cultivation in the course of teaching through the later questionnaire survey and interview;third,according to the analysis of teaching materials,the author's observations and teachers' feedback,some reasonable suggestions are given for teachers to train senior high school students' critical thinking ability.Through the author's analysis and study,the author finds that the English teaching materials in senior high school embody critical thinking skills,but on the other hand,the teachers' ability to cultivate students' critical thinking in the classroom needs to be improved.The author suggests that teachers can rationally design classroom teaching activities.according to the characteristics of the teaching materials,such as pay attention to the form of teaching and the way of asking questions,which in order to divert students' thinking as much as possible and exercise their thinking,which is focus on achieving the goal of developing students' critical thinking ability constantly.
