The article tries to show the true daily education of a junior middle school in a county in northwestern China through a detailed description of the school ethnography from the perspective of a supportive teacher.Nowadays, quality education popular in all parts of the country is specious in G Middle School. It is an exam-oriented education model. Both teachers and students are miserable.Exam-based education has spawned more prominent and shocking teachers’ corporal punishment of students in local schools. Its operation does have its own set of logic. It is recognized as the most effective means of managing students and improving their performance.Teachers are incapable of acting helplessly;in contrast to being treated as a victim, students who are disciplined have a positive attitude toward corporal punishment in the local cultural environment. However, the pain, affliction, exhaustion, and numbness caused by corporal punishment sometimes make teachers and students feel chilly and annoyed. The front-line teachers are in an anxious and depressed state for a long time, and the students are unaware of memorizing useless knowledge,so they can’t wait to get away from school. This paper hopes to reflect on the universally compulsory school education system and express the hope of freedom of education through the author’s direct experience in the field as a teacher of teaching and the thinking on what is education triggered by the scene of field life.
