With the development of the society,the importance of English,which is an indispensable language in the world nowadays,has become increasingly prominent.This directly determines the necessity and importance of English as a subject in the education of the junior high school.For the education of junior high school,the teaching aim is to enhance students' skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing and to achieve an all-round development of the four skills.The ability of reading is of special importance.The improvement of the students' reading ability needs to be realized through the teaching of English reading.That is why the teaching of reading plays an important role in English classes.However,the traditional reading lessons just focuses on usage of new words and analyses of complex structures instead of cultivating student's ability of grasping the whole text.Teachers ignore cultivating students' reading strategies and language competence.The research has mainly adopted surveys and empirical method.73 students Grade Nine from the Attached middle school of Xu Hui Teachers' Institute was selected as the subjects.The empirical research lasts for two months.Firstly,through the questionnaire,a comprehensive and objective understanding of the current situation of students' English reading and analysis of the reason behind the status is achieved.According to the reflected problems,the author gives some specific measures for the application of schema theory to English reading in junior high school.Then,the effective function of the schema theory to guide the junior English reading teaching is proved through the experimental study.And there are three research questions: 1)whether the schema-based English reading teaching can improve students' reading comprehension ability;2)whether the schema-based English reading teaching can arouse students' interest in reading;3)Which is more effective teaching method,The schema-based English reading teaching method or traditional English reading teaching method?Form the experimental data,it's not difficult to find that the junior high school students' English reading level has been obviously improved differently to various extent.Research results show that schema reading theory can improve student's reading comprehension ability and arouse student's interest in reading.Schema-based English reading teaching is more effective than traditional English reading teaching.Therefore,if English teachers can use the schema theory actively and design the teaching mode suitable for students' learning,the teaching activities will be more efficient and the teaching effect will be improved.
