Lots of senior high schools in our country still adopt the traditional teaching model,in which too much attention is paid to basic knowledge teaching while the cultivation of students' thinking ability,cooperation ability and creative ability have been ignored.Therefore many educators have advocated to conduct English teaching from the perspective of ecology and have strived to build eco-classroom.The core idea of eco-classroom is to respect,awaken and inspire life.Therefore,the application of the eco-classroom theory into English teaching is of great importance,especially in English reading teaching in senior high school.So the author tried to do a practical research on English reading teaching in senior high school under the guidance of eco-classroom theory.The paper first reviews related studies on eco-classroom theory.Then,to know the current ecology situation in English reading teaching in senior high school,the author investigated 427 students in 8 normal classes in Grade Two in a senior high school Jiangxi Province.Then,the author selected two of the eight classes to do English reading teaching experiment for one term.To ensure the two classes are in the same reading level,the author used their final exam papers' reading part to do the pre-test.The controlled class still adopted the traditional teaching mode while the experimental class was taught by eco-classroom teaching mode.After the experiment,the author interviewed some students in the experimental group to know their attitude to eco-classroom teaching mode.Afterwards,a post-reading test was done in the controlled and experimental groups and SPSS was used to analyze the test data.Through the interviews and the analysis of post-test data in the experiment,the conclusion was drawn as follows: There was significant difference between the experimental group and the controlled group,and the eco-classroom theory has a positive effect on English reading teaching in senior high school.It improved students' learning achievements and reading level,enhanced their reading enthusiasm,cultivated their good reading habits as well as enriched their reading quantity.
