With the progress of information and technology as well as the deepening reform of education, flipped classroom based on student-centered learning ideology emerged.Students' personalized learning is given into full play since before class students are allowed to complete the preview of knowledge assigned by teacher at their own pace according to their own learning schedule. Then students complete the internalization of knowledge guided by teacher in face-to-face class. As the majority of knowledge transmission has already been finished prior to class, teacher is able to win sufficient time to get students involved in diversified learning activities to learn more deeply about knowledge. In addition, more interaction get increased, resulting in more communication between students and teacher. While English reading is flipped, reading strategies, vocabulary part as well as cultural aspect related to reading can be introduced before class so that more time is spent in exploring the reading text in depth.Flipped classroom, according to its definition, make knowledge transmission occur before class, which in turn contributes to knowledge internalization in class.Flipped classroom offers English teachers a brand new thought in pedagogical idea, which brings new vigor to current English teaching as well.In spite of numerous research related to flipped classroom in recent years, most research is limited in theory, leading to insufficient empirical research concerning flipped classroom.Besides,a great deal of research mainly focuses on college. The study of flipped classroom is limited in science subject in middle school. Therefore, further research about the conduction of flipped classroom in English subject need making in senior school. The research is set in a senior school of Chengdu, which is an ordinary school in the district. The academic performance of students from this school ranks the bottom in the district in comparison with other schools. The senior school serves as the research context with three classes selected randomly from senior one being the subject of the research. The whole research lasts for three months. The study aims to answer three research questions(1)What are students' attitudes and perspective to flipped classroom?(2)What are the problems when flipped classroom is implemented in English reading class.?(3)What strategies can be used to improve the effect of flipped classroom on English reading class?Based on the result of class observation, questionnaires, interview, the research finds that the majority of students held positive attitudes towards flipped classroom, and most of them are satisfied with the implementation of flipped classroom to English reading teaching. However, some students with poor autonomous ability prefers traditional teaching model to flipped classroom model.Meanwhile, some problems exist in the process of conducting flipped classroom: First, for lack of autonomous ability, students are not well-prepared before class.Second, targeted at students in low language level, the interaction either between students and teacher or between students and students in class doesn't go on smoothly.Third,Teacher has limited resource to make high-quality micro-video.Fourth,Teacher faces more problems in class management.Fifth, teachers face pressure due to much extra workload both before and in class.Sixth, the hardware facility for carrying on flipped classroom is not mature.Seventh, not all the reading material is suitable for flipping. At last, the author put forward some strategies in order to improve the effect of flipped classroom to English reading class. The strategies are as follows:(1)Teachers' professional capability together with ability of information technology should be enhanced.(2)Targeted at English reading, micro video should be designed scientifically.(3)Students' autonomous learning ability should be developed with teacher' supervision and guidance.(4)In order to improve the efficiency of class interaction, teachers should take measures to improve students' oral English.(5)Teachers should select suitable reading material for flipping.(6)The hardware facility for implementing flipped classroom needs improving.
