Research On The Dilemma Of Social Work Students In Practice

The major of social work is a professional which is full of value,and it is also a highly practical major.It emphasizes altruism and aims at realizing social justice.As a student majored in social work,internship has become one of the important ways to improve its professional ability and level.However,because of the characteristics of the social work and the features of the interns,interns will inevitably encounter difficulties in the practice.This paper,taking the social work students as the breakthrough point,studies the difficulties encountered by the students in the practice of social work and analyzes the reasons for these difficulties.On this basis,the paper puts forward the countermeasures to avoid the difficulties.The purpose is to provide guidance for the future interns so as to better participate in the practice.In this paper,the students of the 2016 MSW of L university are selected as the research subjects,and interview is the main research method,and the related data of the difficulties encountered by the students in the practice are collected,arranged and analyzed.Through the analysis of interview data,the types of difficulties encountered by interns are found.The first one is professional ethical dilemma,including the confidentiality and privacy,the subject self-determination and professional authority,the loyalty to different objects,the professional boundaries and double relations,the allocation of limited resources,the conflict between the professional ethics and regulations,and the dilemma between research and evaluation of the professional ethics and the ethical dilemmas among colleagues.The second one is to support the dilemma,including insufficient support for institutional supervision,insufficient support from institutional colleagues,insufficient support in school supervision and insufficient support for internship subsidies.The third one is the role dilemma,mainly including unclear role,role conflict,role gap and so on.According to the social support theory and professional ethics theory,the reasons for the difficulties encountered in the internship practice in social work are analyzed.The main reasons are as follows.The first one is in terms of interns,and the main reason is that unclear role cognition,the lacking of professional ethics,and the insufficient attention paid professional ethics behavior.The second one is in terms of organization,and it is mainly due to the lack of emphasis on internships,the influence of administration,and the lack of strong ethical awareness in supervision.The third one is in terms of schools,and the main drawback lies in the limited number of centralized supervision,lack of targeted practice simulation.According to the reasons,some pertinent measures and suggestions are put forward: firstly,on the aspects of interns,we should improve the cognitive ability of the role,strengthen the study of professional knowledge,pay attention to the professional behavior,and set up a correct ethical understanding.The second one is on the side of the organization.The organization should improve the practice environment,pay attention to the existing problems,improve the supervision mechanism and guarantee the quality of supervision.The third one is in terms of school,we should strengthen the social work practice education,innovate the way of supervision and guide the students regularly,in order to help the specialized practice.
