Stereo videos can create direct and vivid visual perception, diverse and comprehensive interactive experience. Therefore, its application prospect is very broad and has attracted more and more attention. However, a variety of distortions come along with the course of recording, processing, transmission and display. To improve the performance of stereo video system, it's very important to establish a set of complete and effective stereo video quality assessment scheme. Stereo video quality assessment includes subjective and objective assessment. With the human viewers as the final receiver for video technology, subjective video quality assessment can yield perfect and desired quality measures, and can also provide foundation for the optimization of objective video quality assessment metrics.Based on the characteristics of the human visual system, in this paper a method of subjective quality assessment of stereo video is proposed after a large number of document and experiments. The method is described in six aspects in details: building a stereo video database, description of viewing conditions, selection of assessors, training and testing assessors, data processing and analyses of the experiment results. The assessors score their perception of compressed stereo videos, and the data are processed with the statistical theory. Then the results are regarded as MOS(Mean Opinion Score) of stereo videos. The experimental results show that the sensitivity of the human eyes to stereo video overall quality is not the same, and overall quality of the decompressed stereo videos become poor as quantization parameter(QP) increases. Furthermore, when overall quality of the stereo videos is extremely good or bad, QP has a similar effect on quality and stereoscopy of the stereo videos; between the above mentioned two cases, QP has a greater impact on quality of the stereo videos than stereoscopy of the stereo videos. The results suggest that the method of subjective quality assessment proposed in this paper is reasonable and can state stereo video quality accurately.
