Study Of The Subjective And Objective Methods For Video Quality Assessment

Digital video quality assessment plays important roles in video compression, visual processing and video communications. The subjective methods for video quality are consistent with actual conditions, but cost too much time. The existing objective evaluation methods for video quality have the merits of simple and easy to implement, but they are not exactly in consistent with human's visual system (HVS). On the basis of deeply understand the characteristics of HVS, we conducted systematic research on the subjective and objective video quality assessment methods.Firstly, we introduce the existing methods for video quality assessment, and give a detailed analysis of several methods based on HVS; Secondly, an introduction to the subjective video quality assessment software is described. The software is used to provide subjective test data for objective video quality assessment methods; Then, combining the features of HVS and the weighted visual assessment method, we present an objective video quality assessment model, this model could reflect the perception quality of video sequence better; At last, the paper gives the experimental results and performance analysis of the model, the results indicates that the model has satisfactory estimating performance and reflects subjective video quality more exactly.
