| The development environment of Guangdong Province as a leader in China’smost developed provinces, is extremely superior and the integrated resourceadvantages are obvious. The occasion of international industrial transfer、theunique opportunities and the advantages of the geographical location, coupledwith foreign direct investment and massive inflow of cheap labor are especiallyprominent. In recent years, Guangdong’s foreign trade is excellent, especially inmanufacturing exports. But with the huge trade surplus and export scale, its exportcompetitiveness does not match its export status. Guangdong Province’straditional industrial development model dependent on cheap labor and foreigncapital has been difficult to sustain its long-term development of economics andforeign trade. To enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing exports is verynecessary and has special significance, more importantly, accord with thedevelopment trend in future. Therefore, we hope to assess the level and thecompetitiveness of manufacturing exports at this stage of Guangdong Province asthe vanguard and forerunner of the reform and opening up, through objectiveanalysis of relevant data, and judge its future trend.Based on this, we first conduct a qualitative analysis of the current situationof the manufacturing’s export trade in Guangdong Province, followed byextensively and systematically reviewing and sorting out the relevant researchresults at home and abroad. Then we use research methods to measure and evaluethe export competitiveness with4indicators, namely RCA, MS, TC and CEP.While we use Jiangsu and Zhejiang province as a contrast which are very similarto Guangdong Province on the level of the economic development and foreigntrade, trying to explain whether Guangdong Province has a competitive advantage.Nextly, the paper induces the major relevant factors, including the industrial scale,export structure, import trade, ownership structure, R&D and technologicalinnovation, foreign capital, factor endowment. Regression model is constructed toconduct the empirical analysis. Finally, we put forward detailed and concretepolicy recommendations to further improve the export competitiveness ofGuangdong Province in the context of the modern era. |
