Over the past decade, China economy maintained rapid growth. We found out that the development mode of extensive and compressive lead to tight resource constraints. As we know, alleviating the shortage of mineral resources, maintaining social stable and economic development all cannot do without high level of geological work. Geological exploration work is shouldering the resource supply, environmental survey, engineering survey and a series of arduous duties. This paper aims to make a scientific input-output performance evaluation and ranking of interprovincial geological prospecting in China. Knowing the actual level of performance in different regions can help us to find a scientific and effective way to promote the method of resources allocation.First of all, this paper taking the input-output perspective to construct a index system of provincial geological prospecting performance. We programmed different strategies of cross-efficiency DEA model with MATLAB. The performance in 2003-2012 which evaluated by neutral cross efficiency DEA model had been discussed thoroughly. The results shows: the overall change of performance presented as a gentle and inverted “U” shaped trend. There are significant differences of performance level between different provinces. High, medium and low level of performance in the geographical area was similar with Eastern, Central and Western China regional economic pattern.Secondary part, we analyzed spatial and temporal feature by using Kernel density and coefficient of variation. The analysis shows: from the perspective of time, the majority of poor performance provinces and a few high level provinces coexist. From the perspective of spatial, the proximity effect has a certain influent on the performance level of individual province. Majority of provinces had c losed to the average level of the adjacent area.Third part, We made efforts to analyze the influencing factor of input-output performance of provincial geological exploration in China by using random effects panel data model of Tobit regression. The research shows: The growth level of the second industry, the growth level of economic, the utilization level of mineral resource, the administrative power and the level of technology input ha d significant positive effect on the input-output performance of geological prospecting. On other side, Market forces, human resource scale put significant negative influence on performance.
