With the coming of information age, information has become a increasingly important resource, and information consumption that meet the development of the information age has sprung up as a new consumption. However, due to the information consumption started relatively late in our country, its development is not all-inclusive, at the same time, the particularity of information consumption, which causes the level of consumption is related to consumer's economic strength, cultural knowledge level and comprehensive understanding ability and so on, this makes the information consumption appeared a certain degree of stratification. Existing information consumption imbalance phenomenon directly affect the sustained growth of national economy and social stability, so it has a urgent need to analyze the current stratification of information consumption of China, to research the factors that result in information consumption stratification, as well as differences and characteristics of different information consumption level. So this article has certain theoretical value and practical significance. With combination of documentary analysis, questionnaire investigations and data statistics, this paper intends to explore the current status of China's information consumption and its stratification. In particular, based on the related theory, this paper selected four indicators of information consumption survey, namely the four stages in the process of information consumption: information needs, information acquisition and possession, information absorption, and information processing, creation and regeneration, and on this basis a questionnaire was designed. According to the survey data from the current status of information consumption has carried on the summary analysis in the whole and process aspects, then by correlation analysis and chi-square analysis, this paper explores the factors that affect China's social information consumption. On the basis of using the hierarchical clustering analysis of information consumption, information had been proved by chi-square that different layers had significant difference. And then this paper had a further analysis of information consumption differences between information layers and demographic factors differences and lead to the difference of the internal and external causes, finally puts forward the countermeasures of improving information consumption stratification.Through the research, this paper shows that information consumption has a positive relationship with education, income and occupation, and there is a negative correlation relationship between information consumption and age, a regional obvious linear correlation between information consumption and district, and no correlation between information consumption and gender; Information consumption is divided into seven layers, namely, the top, highest, upper, middle, lower, lowest and the bottom of information consumption; In the information consumption between different levels, along with the decrease of information consumption level, information consumption also gradually from high to low; Information consumers' different ideas, personal qualities, information consciousness and the ability to pay are the internal cause of information consumption stratification, and the unbalance of economic and social development, the inequality of distribution of information consumption and the differentiation of media transmission are the external cause of the information consumption stratification; Improving the information consumption and its stratification should be analysed from the macroscopic and microscopic, we need to adhere to the principle of government guidance, guarantee fairness of information legislation, narrow the gap in income distribution among regions, promote the informationization process, as well as pay attention to improve the individual information literacy of information consumers.
