Cotton is one of the most important economic crops in China and it is an indispensable raw material for the textile industry and has a very important position in the China's economy development. China has a long history of cotton planting, as early as in the Ming and Qing Dynasties it has been the existence of cotton production activities. With the rapid development of cotton industry in our country, especially after joining the WTO, China has become the largest cotton producer in the world, first cotton consumption country and largest cotton importer, cotton for the importance of our country is increasing day by day. As a big country of cotton production, cotton trade of our country has a serious trade deficit, which seriously restricts the healthy development of China's cotton industry. Therefore, it is necessary to research the international competitiveness of China's cotton, promote the development of our country's cotton industry. This paper focuses on the current situation of cotton production and trade, the level of international competitiveness of China's cotton and the related factors that affect the international competitiveness of China's cotton. The main conclusions are:(1) the cotton growing area of our country is concentrated, the yield of cotton is larger, and the yields in different cotton producing areas are different. China's drought and flood disasters as well as pests seriously affect China's cotton production activities. In recent years, China's cotton production costs continue to rise, the yield of cotton fell by a large margin. China's cotton export and import countries are relatively concentrated;(2) through the SWOT matrix analysis, the influence of China's cotton production and competitiveness adverse factors are lack of high-quality varieties of cotton in China, "three wire" phenomenon is prominent, and joining the WTO later makes a disadvantage and cotton stocks is high in China.(3) China's cotton is not competitive in the world.(4) the influence factors which affect China's exports of cotton is the distance between the two countries, GDP of two countries, cotton export prices, population engaged in agriculture, the production of cotton, cotton yarn production, exchange rate, financial crisis and the FTA construction.According to the conclusions of this study, some suggestions are presented to improve the international competitiveness of China's cotton:(1) play the regional advantages, optimize the regional distribution of production;(2) to increase its financial input, strengthening construction of water conservancy facilities and pest damage prevention and control work;(3)to improve the farmers professional technical and management level, reduce the cost of production;(4) establish cotton cooperatives, reduce production costs;(5) to cultivate high-quality cotton, improve cotton quality inspection system, regulate the cotton circulation;(6) to actively participate in WTO rules formulated, accelerate the construction of FTA.
