Strategies For Navigation Development In Lancang-Mekong River Under The New Situation

In the “One Belt-One Road” Initiative,the Province of Yunnan has a special regional advantages,as an important joint to the Western,as well as a radiation center facing South Asia and Southeast Asia.Therefore,it is an important opportunity for Yunnan to take its regional advantages,and build a key hub in the “One Belt-One Road” Initiative.To take this opportunity,optimize the provincial industrial layout,and enhance the provincial competence and social and economic development,the province is actively studying related strategies and measures.The strategy of transportation infrastructure construction is currently transitioning from the “building” mode to the “industry-oriented” mode,which is intended to help in optimizing industry pattern,fostering competitive industrial chains and clusters,and promoting regional economies.During this transition,it is important for Yunnan to understand the strategic role of international navigation on Lancang-Mekong River in implementing the Initiative,and the provincial Strategy of “Building a radiation center facing South Asia and Southeast Asia”.Based on a thorough study on the geographic,regional,resources,and strategic advantages of Lancang-Mekong River,this thesis forecasts potential cargo throughputs in the watershed of the River,using the SWOT theory.The forecasting will significantly help in utilizing natural,social and economic resources,and establishing the policies,direction,and measures for the development of navigation industry of the River.The forecasting will also help in discovering the core role of navigation development on the River in implementing the Initiative and the Strategy.Furthermore,this thesis discusses development measures for navigation industry in the River under the Strategy.
